Stop SMS Reverse Billing Texts
Subscribing to a mobile phone content service through reverse
SMS text billing is a convenient way to get the latest mobile
phone content, including ringtones, wallpapers and logos or even
Java games. While there is a multitude of mobile content to choose
from along with millions of people successfully using this service,
problems can arise when you no longer wish to receive any more
content from the service provider, but still find them sending
you content and charging you for it.
The standard method of unsubscribing from a reverse SMS bill
service is to send the word STOP to the shortcode that is sending
the chargeable messages. The word stop is not case sensitive,
although you need to make sure you don't add any additional characters
as the service is automated and may as a result fail to cancel
your subscription.
If you're having problems finding out what the short code is
that's being used to send you the unwanted reverse SMS bills,
the first thing to do is contact your service provider. They can
pass on the short code used by the company sending you the text
messages, if its been deleted from your phone.
If sending the word STOP to the offending short code does not
work then you need to find the offending companies details. This
can be done by going to the ICSTIS
(Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of the
Telephone Information Services) website and using its number checking
facility.
If you want to make a complaint about the company that has been
sending you unwanted reverse SMS messages while at the ICSTIS
website fill out the complaint form. However, you will have to
contact the company sending the unwanted texts directly for a
refund, the ICSTIS will not do this for you.
Recycled Mobile Phone Numbers
It's not unknown for people to buy a new phone and to their horror
find that they are being charged by a premium rate content provider.
Situations like this arise due to the fact that very often phone
numbers are recycled, as not everyone takes their number with
them when they buy a new mobile phone. It could be that the person
who had the number before you had signed up for a premium rate
subscription service.
To counter this problem, recycled numbers go into a quarantine
for 6 months, any company trying to send premium rate messages
will be informed of this and told to remove the number from their
database. The problem is not all companies do this, once again
contact the ICSTIS to try to resolve the situation.
If you don't like the idea of using a subscription service for
your mobile phone content needs then why not use our Subscription
Free Ringtone and Java Games service, you only pay a one off
fee for what you download.
